RiSE response and Contextual Project Topic

I have chose to look into the ALS ice bucket challenge for my project. It seemed like a majority of social media users saw or participated in it so I thought it would be a good idea to do some research on the topic. I heard rumors of how much actually went to the cause, and saw many of my own friends participate in it so I think I'll have a lot of fun learning about the impact social media had on this "challenge."

As far as my response to the RiSE festival I just found pretty much 2 types of responses on social media. You have the glass half full bunch, and the glass has been shattered and its shards are everywhere. I personally thought the wait for the buses could have been kind of cool, because you would've have gotten to know more people and you would've been able to talk about how cool the festival was. I could see the people with young kids getting upset, but that was a once in a lifetime experience and I would have tried to see the positive in the situation. Social media sure does allow for both sides of the spectrum to be heard, and that always make an event like that with both pros and cons so polarizing.

The Value of Education

I think there have been some great points about education that have been brought up in class. I'm glad that there is something that a large majority of us can agree on. We agree that an education and learning is important. We also agree that the current system we have has its flaws. I would say our class is pretty diverse, so to have an issue where we are pretty much on the same page is encouraging.

One of my favorite shows over the past few years has been "Dirty Jobs," hosted by Mike Rowe. He is coming out with this new show called "Someone's Gotta Do It," and I'm pretty excited about it also. Both of the shows highlight very hard-working people who do the jobs that need to be done that maybe don't get the respect they deserve. I don't want to go too far into the shows, but I bring it up because he brings up a very good point about education in the promo video for the new show. He puts some of my feelings about education in words, and does it better in only 1:24 so I figured you might enjoy that a little better. So.....Enjoy!

Should you go to college?
